Sander Schimmelpenninck knows how to address difficult topics and spark meaningful debate. This creates real conversations with valuable outcomes and plenty of food for thought afterwards. Television Why is the gap between rich and poor continuing to grow? In the VPRO series Sander en De Kloof (2022), Sander has a mission: to expose wealth and opportunity inequality in the Netherlands. For WNL, Sander Schimmelpenninck previously created several programs with and about entrepreneurs. In De Opvolgers (2018 and 2019), he took a behind-the-scenes look at family businesses. In 2020, he co-hosted the versatile talk show Op1 alongside presenter Welmoed Sijtsma and the business program Dragons’ Den. Sander as an author Sander was editor-in-chief of Quote magazine for several years (2016–2020). With his stories, he woke up Amsterdam to the dangers of Airbnb and defended the tradition of student associations. He also wrote a number of widely read articles: from the manipulations of the Postcode Lottery to stories about black bitcoins and failing start-ups. Since September 2019, Sander has been a columnist for de Volkskrant. In his book Sander en de Brug, he answers the question that arose after the success of the TV series Sander en De Kloof, and that came to him from all directions: what can we do to create more equal opportunities in the Netherlands? In his book De domheid regeert (Stupidity Rules), Sander reveals how stupidity is used as a political strategy in the Netherlands, undermining crucial pillars such as democracy and journalism. Zelfspodcast Since 2019, Sander Schimmelpenninck has been hosting the popular Zelfspodcast together with Jaap Reesema, in which they discuss their daily lives and current affairs. The Zelfspodcast was named the most listened-to podcast of 2020. Together with Maarten de Gruyter, Sander also hosts the podcast Eind goed Vastgoed, in which they explore the fascinating world of real estate.
