Speaker Edwin van Andel is an expert in cybersecurity who, as an experienced hacker, reveals the ins and outs of hacking, IoT awareness, and social engineering. With humor and insight, he offers a look into the hacker mindset so your organization can take the necessary steps to stay digitally secure.
Background
Born in 1970, Edwin van Andel has been “pressing buttons” since childhood. No device was safe from him, and his teenage years were marked by discovering computers, modems, and hacking—what those around him described as a “very disastrous period.” After years of exploring information on open systems, he joined a major IT distributor, quickly rising to senior consultant on high-risk projects, often deployed abroad for security reasons.
In 2003, he co-founded Yafsec to support companies and IT dealers in navigating the security landscape. Since 2016, he has worked for Insite Security and Zerocopter, helping expand the “continuous security” platform. In 2017, he became CEO of Zerocopter. Edwin won the Lightning Talks at Brucon in 2013 and organized an alternative NCSC conference “because no hackers were invited.”
Mission
Edwin started hacking at age 13. Although now CEO of Zerocopter, his connection to the hacker community remains his main drive. He dreams of gathering brilliant hacker minds in one space to hack anything brought in, while also mentoring young hackers through the ‘Guild of the Grumpy Old Hackers’ to ultimately create a safer society via a more secure internet.
