Marjan Heemskerk

Marjan Heemskerk (1985) is a certified public accountant (RA) and founded the online platform The Happy Financial in 2016, with the goal of making finance simple and accessible. The platform’s motto is therefore: “Making finance fun & easy.”

In addition to articles and videos for entrepreneurs, Marjan also creates content for individuals, helping them get their personal finances in order. In 2019, her book The Happy Financial was published by Business Contact. In five practical steps, Marjan explains how to make your money work for you instead of simply working hard for your money.

Marjan also teaches on the Master's program in Accountancy at Nyenrode Business Universiteit, where she was named Teacher of the Year in 2019. Before that, she worked as an accountant at firms including PwC and BDO.

The Happy Financial

Through articles and videos, Marjan shows that finance does not have to be as boring or complicated as it is often perceived to be. Her content is aimed at both entrepreneurs and individuals and draws on her experience as a certified public accountant as well as her personal experiences.

Marjan is also a regular columnist for Accountant.nl, a platform for finance professionals. In 2019, her first book, The Happy Financial, was published by Business Contact. She continues to teach on the Master's programme in Accountancy at Nyenrode Business Universiteit.

The art of finance lies in explaining complex financial topics in a simple and engaging way. Finance, whether for individuals or entrepreneurs, is often seen as “boring” and “complicated”. Marjan shows that it doesn't have to be.

She gives inspiring talks for aspiring entrepreneurs, for example on what to consider when starting a business in terms of taxes, administration, and doing business. She also speaks to individuals about making informed financial choices, such as whether to save or invest. Her approach is always accessible, practical, and easy to understand.

Marjan is available as a speaker and gives talks on topics including economics, entrepreneurship, and management. Various session options are available to suit different audiences and events.
