Martin Visser is a columnist and reporter for De Financiële Telegraaf, covering macroeconomic developments in the Netherlands and Europe. He is also a regular commentator on the television programme EenVandaag. Martin began his journalistic career after studying Economics at the weekly magazine Elsevier. After two years, he moved to Het Financieele Dagblad (FD), where he reported on the Dutch polder model, social security, the labour market, and healthcare. For four years he was a parliamentary correspondent for the FD, closely following the developments involving Jan Peter Balkenende and Wouter Bos.
Background
In January 2008, Martin moved to Brussels as a correspondent, where he covered the banking crisis, the economic crisis, and the euro crisis. On the last topic, he wrote the widely discussed book De Eurocrisis, an exposé on political failure. Returning to the Netherlands at the end of 2012, he became a columnist and general reporter at the FD. In summer 2013, he joined De Telegraaf, becoming the face of De Financiële Telegraaf, writing a weekly column, and producing video contributions twice a week under DFT Visser Vindt. In 2014, he co-authored the book De Kleine Piketty with Wouter van Bergen, followed later by De Kleine Piketty 2. In 2015, he published Komt het nog wel goed met ons?, analyzing current economic developments.
