As a geopolitical analyst and co-founder of HIG the Hague Institute for Geopolitics, Michel helps policymakers and businesses sharpen their geostrategic and geo-economic thinking. His mission: to anchor the Netherlands and Europe more firmly in the new world order. He argues for a renewed geopolitical strategy for Europe, with a clear focus on cooperation with middle powers and on strengthening Europe's economic engine. His ideas are as innovative as they are concrete.

Michel shares his expertise in the widely followed GeopolitiekNu-podcast and in his masterclasses. His work has by now earned a strong reputation both at home and abroad. He is a welcome guest in the media, providing analysis of current affairs on programmes including Nieuwsuur, Eva Jinek, Bureau Buitenland and Nieuwsweekend. In doing so, he consistently connects the news of the day to the major geopolitical questions of our time, challenging his audience to embrace new ways of thinking.

Michel as an entrepreneur

Michel is also active as an entrepreneur. With his start-up Flexiliser, he is tackling the nitrogen crisis by connecting the energy transition and agriculture – an innovative start-up that aims to get 'farmers out the shit'. That entrepreneurial experience gives him a keen sense of the opportunities and challenges Dutch businesses are grappling with, which he translates into practical, inspiring talks.
