After living and working for 25 years as a correspondent in the Middle East, Thomas Erdbrink is the Netherlands' most prominent international journalist. He was for more than a decade virtually the only Western journalist in Iran. Additionally, he was a prominent face on CNN, and his work was closely followed from the White House. He is known for his series Our Man in Tehran, as the host of Zomergasten, NOS and NRC correspondent, and columnist for the Volkskrant. He is available for booking as a moderator.
In a personal lecture, Thomas Erdbrink explains how he transformed from a whole Dutchman into a half Iranian and back again. Or maybe not? After twenty years in Iran, he embarks on a journey of discovery through his own homeland and rediscovers the Netherlands in 2022. From the public transport chip card to festivals and from gluten-free bread to oat cappuccino.
According to Thomas, every trip is an escape from our daily bubble, a chosen disruption that continually opens our eyes. Because no matter where you go, you always bring something back home. So what did he bring back from Iran, and can we learn something from it? He will elaborate on this in his lecture. One thing we can already reveal: aside from the smooth manners of the Middle East, there is another ace up the sleeve: the Iranian dance moves.
