Willem Post is a Dutch expert on the United States, historian and writer. He studied American history and international relations at Leiden University. Since May 2007, he has been affiliated with the Clingendael Institute as a Senior Visiting Fellow specializing in American politics, particularly the US presidency and foreign and security policy. He also lectures for the Institute for Defence Studies (IDL).
Expert on the United States
Since the mid-1980s, Willem has worked as an American politics commentator and expert for a wide range of media outlets. In the late 1980s, he joined the foreign affairs editorial team at Het Parool, where he also reviewed non-fiction books. In 1996, he became the first television expert in his field to receive a permanent contract, with AVRO, KRO and NCRV for the current affairs programs Netwerk and KRO’s Ontbijttelevisie.
Writer and Journalist
Willem Post has written columns for publications including Financieel Dagblad. In 2004, he received the Gold Star from the National Council for International Visitors in Washington, D.C., in recognition of his contributions. In recent years, he has been particularly active in various NOS programs, including NOS Radio 1 Journaal, Een Vandaag, TROS Nieuwsshow and WNL’s Vandaag de Dag. He also regularly provides commentary for Australian public radio and BBC World-PRI. Since September 2015, Willem Post has also participated in the White House Series 2016 at the international press centre Nieuwspoort.
