Eva Eikhout was born on 9 March 1996 as the eldest of three daughters. She was born in perfect health, but without hands, elbows or knees due to a limb difference. Growing up in Groesbeek, near Nijmegen, she learned from an early age to approach life with humor, creativity and perseverance. Her electric wheelchair takes her everywhere, and despite the physical challenges, she successfully navigated mainstream education. During her teenage years, Eva experienced the psychological side of her disability and discovered the concept of ‘living loss’: missing something you will never have. She learned to navigate systems, stand her ground in a world that does not always adapt, and developed her vision on resilience and taking control.
Eva Eikhout as a Speaker and Moderator
As a speaker, Eva is approachable, disarming and sharp. She uses relatable situations and personal stories to make major themes understandable and tangible. Without pointing an accusing finger or comparing herself to others, she holds up an honest and humorous mirror to her audience. Everyone encounters challenges in life – physically, mentally or socially. That is precisely where the strength of her story lies. As a moderator, Eva creatively gets to the heart of conversations, asks sharp questions and creates a safe space in which participants feel seen and heard. She effortlessly adapts to different styles and audiences and has a keen sense of what is needed, from award shows and concerts to corporate events and panel discussions.
Career
Eva studied in Nijmegen and lived there for several years before moving to Amsterdam. She now works as a programme maker and presenter for organisations including BNNVARA, while also establishing herself as a sought-after moderator and speaker. She has taken the stage at TEDx twice, in 2016 and 2023, where she shared her story with impact and flair. In spring 2024, her first book, 'Dit is geen boek van een meisje zonder armen & benen', was published, bringing together her experiences, observations and unique perspective on life.
She presents, interviews and moderates for a wide range of clients, from companies and ministries to municipalities, hospitals and banks. Her clients have included RadboudUMC, Rabobank and various government institutions. Her strength lies in combining humor, openness, courage and perspective. Eva always knows how to strike the right tone and encourages people to think without being moralising. She shows that disability and inspiration can go hand in hand, and that personal leadership starts with yourself, regardless of what you do or do not have.
