Racing Driver
Jan Lammers is a renowned Dutch racing driver. At the age of sixteen, he started racing without a driving license and won his first race in the Group 1 touring cars. In 1979, he entered Formula 1 as the European Formula 3 champion. Nine years later, he made history alongside Andy Wallace and Johnny Dumfries. They defeated the Porsches, which had been unbeatable since 1982, with the SilkCut Jaguar. Jan spent 13 of the 24 hours behind the wheel, and despite a broken gearbox, they were the first to cross the finish line. It was Jaguar’s first victory since 1957. The men were invited to the palace in England and received the title of ‘Honorary Member of the BRDC’. Jan repeatedly knows how to turn difficult situations into victories. This is something that defines him not only as a racing driver, but also as an entrepreneur and speaker.
Since 2005, Jan Lammers has led the Dutch A1-GP A1 Team The Netherlands, with Jos Verstappen as its first driver. In 2012, Jan participated in ‘Le Dakar 2012’ with his own team, Racing for Holland. They competed in a truck featuring a ‘block concept’. The black-and-white blocks on the truck represent a checkered flag and can be filled with sponsors. Jan had previously implemented this innovative concept with his ‘Racing for Holland’ team. Today, Jan is still active in motorsport and is, for example, involved in the Dutch Grand Prix as Sporting Director.
