Margje as Moderator
Margje has a number of qualities that set her apart as a journalist, presenter, moderator, and debate leader. She grew up in a family where social engagement and a broad interest in the world were central. This background made her sensitive to social justice and human stories. As a mother of three, she also draws on her own experience with family life and parenting, which often informs her work.
Television Producer
Her role as a television producer was strengthened by directing the travel series "Kefah Allush in the Middle East" for eight years. At the same time, she worked as a presenter for NPO Radio 1 programs such as "Dit is de Dag," "Langs de Lijn," and "Omstreken" (a collaboration with NOS). She later became one of the faces of the talk show "Op1." Presenting this program requires a wide range of skills, including sharp interviewing techniques and the ability to switch quickly between topics in a live television setting. It was an opportunity for Margje to further develop her expertise.
Career
Margje Fikse grew up as the youngest of five children in a family that ran a mixed farm at Landgoed Molecaten in Hattem, later focusing entirely on horse breeding and stallion management. After completing secondary school, she was selected for a travel program for television commissioned by the EO, traveling four weeks across Europe with a camera crew and three other young participants. In St. Petersburg, she interviewed Russians on the street who wanted to return to communism, realizing she had a talent for interviewing that she wanted to pursue further.
She studied Political Science at Leiden University and worked as a freelance presenter for the EO during her studies. Her academic background in political processes and societal issues proved valuable in her later work.
After graduation, she became a reporter and presenter for the news programs "2Vandaag" (then on the second channel) and "Netwerk." She reported from various countries and major events, including multiple U.S. presidential elections, and produced long television reports on UN peace missions in Ethiopia and Congo, broadening her perspective on global issues. This experience honed her journalistic skills and expanded her network. She combined her journalism work with presenting a variety of human-interest television programs for children and adults, such as "BlinQ," "De Laatste Reis," and "Het Familiediner."
