About Quinten Selhorst

Quinten Selhorst was born on 17 October 1987 into an entrepreneurial family in the eastern part of the Netherlands. After completing secondary school, he moved to Groningen to enjoy student life. After obtaining his MSc in International Business & Management, Quinten continued his academic career in the United Kingdom, where he completed a second MSc in International Marketing before starting his professional career as a consultant in Amsterdam.

A key driver for Quinten is not only to make an impact in his own career, but also to create a positive impact on the world. Both during his time in consultancy, where he specialised in the healthcare sector, and through Felyx, he consistently succeeded in reflecting this value in his work.

The road to success

In 2015, Quinten and his co-founder Maarten Poot developed the concept for Felyx: shared electric scooters. In early April 2016, they both decided to leave their consultancy jobs, and in 2017 they became the first company in the Benelux to enter the Amsterdam market with 108 scooters. During his seven years as CEO of Felyx, Quinten repeatedly had to make the difference in a highly competitive market, while the company itself went through many different stages. From developing a go-to-market strategy to rapid scaling and acquisitions involving complex cultural challenges.

Throughout this journey, Quinten had to continuously reinvent himself to meet the demands of his role as CEO and leader of the organisation. It was an extremely valuable and personally enriching journey, but one that also took its toll on his personal life. Finding the right balance between work, pressure, private life and health became an important challenge.

Inspirator

More recently, Quinten decided to step down as CEO and Executive Board Member while remaining involved with Felyx as an Advisory Board Member and major shareholder. He now uses his knowledge and experience to help others address organisational challenges. How do you deal with a wide range of challenges, and which decisions do you make?

During his time as CEO of Felyx, Quinten encountered a range of strategic questions and challenges. Drawing on the lessons he learned, he aims to motivate and inspire his audience. In this workshop, Quinten explores the following themes: business model validation, turnaround management, strategy, go-to-market strategy, building a high-performance culture and sustainability.

In this keynote, Quinten shares the story behind the success of Felyx and what the different phases of the company demanded from him as a leader and CEO.

The challenges Quinten had to address ranged from how to structure the different countries, with a headquarters in the Netherlands overseeing and managing the Dutch, German and Belgian markets, to how to make the business model increasingly efficient through the use of a strong technology and data & analytics stack.

In this keynote, Quinten also shares the lessons learned from this enriching journey. Which trade-offs do you make, and how do you maintain a healthy balance between working hard, your personal life and your wellbeing?
