Renaldo Ishaak

Speaker Renaldo knows how to move an audience with his story. He helps teams grow closer together and individuals recognize the strength in their own story. How? By focusing on the person behind the role and setting aside prejudices. In doing so, he leaves his audience inspired. KNAK Renaldo discovered that sharing his story did him good. It not only gave him the space to process his own experiences, but also gave others the courage to share theirs. In 2022, he founded KNAK: a platform where military personnel, civilian staff, and veterans can openly discuss their mental health. It is a safe environment where experiences are shared, listened to, and encouraged. Renaldo also contributes internationally (at NATO) to conversations about the mental health of first responders. Along this journey, he rediscovered himself and learned, in his view, the best way to lead a team and build it. One of his mottos is: “Talk with each other, not about each other.” Renaldo as a speaker In his lectures, Renaldo holds up a mirror to teams. Through interactive sessions, he provides them with tools for effective collaboration. He teaches them to get to know the story behind their teammates, to treat each other with respect, and not to judge. In this way, teams grow closer and are better able to achieve their goals together. Background Renaldo experienced a turbulent childhood that gave him the dream of helping people. After completing his studies in Peace & Security, he joined the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee, where he currently works as a team leader and Duty Officer at Schiphol Airport. These roles demand strong leadership, constant focus, and involve many stressful moments. In his career, he witnessed intense incidents such as the Schiphol fire and the attack during Queen’s Day in 2009. After a conversation with a colleague, Renaldo realized he had suppressed these stressful moments and decided to make a change. During this time, he discovered the power of his story by showing vulnerability. Renaldo shared his experiences in his book First Responder (2021), in which he introduced us to the human being behind the uniform. Hunted, StukTV, and podcasts As a team leader within the military, Renaldo Ishaak worked on professionalizing various teams to prepare them for extreme situations. His career has equipped him well for moments where alertness and quick decision-making are crucial. As a hunter in season 7 of Hunted (2022) and Hunted VIPS in 2023, he put these skills into practice. In the six-part series De Politieachtervolging by StukTV, Renaldo acted as an expert to track down fugitives Giel de Winter, Thomas van der Vlugt, and Stefan Jurriens. In addition to his expertise in security, he also enjoys sharing the importance of mental health. He has appeared on podcasts such as the Samen Sterker Podcast Defensie and De Mens Achter Het Uniform to tell his story.
