About Robin van Galen

Robin van Galen is a Dutch water polo coach and former water polo player. As a coach, Robin participated in the Olympic Games once, in 2008. He led the Dutch women’s team to the Olympic title.

After the Olympics

After the Olympic Games, he received the medal for Best Dutch Coach at the Olympics from Erica Terpstra. Silver and bronze went to Jacco Verhaeren and Marc Lammers. With the Dutch men’s team, Robin narrowly missed qualification for the 2016 Olympic Games. After suffering a serious shoulder injury at a young age, he quickly had to forget about Olympic glory as a player. The well-known saying, “Every disadvantage has its advantage,” certainly applied to him. Robin discovered that he had a talent for coaching and training.

Coach

In 1988, he began his career as a youth coach in Rotterdam, unaware that twenty years later he would experience the absolute highlight of his career—and of Dutch water polo history—as a coach. Robin is happy to share what he learned from this “once-in-a-lifetime experience.” He currently teaches Finance and Marketing at Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences.
