About Teun van de Keuken
Teun van de Keuken is a journalist, columnist, television presenter, author, and podcast creator. As the founder and driving force behind Tony’s Chocolonely, he is widely recognised for his sharp perspective on social issues and his commitment to sustainability and ethics in the food industry. Through his work, he has established himself as one of the Netherlands’ most influential voices advocating for systemic change.
From Investigative Journalism to Sustainable Entrepreneurship
Teun began his career as the presenter of De Keuringsdienst van Waarde, where, for more than twenty years, he critically examined the food industry. His bold investigations and uncompromising approach turned the programme into an eye-opener for millions of viewers. He later expanded his focus to broader societal issues through television programmes such as Pointer, exploring the impact of public participation, and De Vuilnisman, shedding light on the hidden world behind our waste.
Books on Sustainability and Society
In addition to his work as a presenter and journalist, Teun is a bestselling author. In 2025, he published his fifth book, Dieren zijn ook mensen (Animals Are People Too), in which he explores why giving up meat is often more difficult than people expect. The book follows De mens is een plofkip (The Human Is a Factory-Farmed Chicken), an eye-opening look at the food industry that reached the Dutch bestseller list. He has also written Goed Volk (Good People, 2017), a personal account of his childhood, De Supermarktsurvivalgids (The Supermarket Survival Guide, 2018), and Dit is geen dieetboek (This Is Not a Diet Book), in which he tested seven different diets. Alongside his books, Teun writes a weekly column for Vrij Nederland, where he shares his outspoken views on current social issues.
Teun is also an accomplished podcast creator. Together with Gijs Groenteman, he launched the successful podcast Teun & Gijs Vertellen Alles. He also founded the podcast production company Meer van Dit, which produces several popular podcasts, including Etenstijd with Yvette van Boven.
