Viggo Waas as a Speaker
Viggo draws on his own experience to speak about the impact of suffering a stroke and what it takes to fight your way back. With humour and openness, he shares what happens to you and the resilience required to rebuild your life. He can also read excerpts from his book and explain how speech therapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and mental resilience can support the journey back into society.
Career
From the age of eight until he was twenty-four, Viggo Waas was a talented youth player at Ajax. Although he ultimately did not make it to the professional level, his time at Ajax had a lasting influence on his career. While playing for Ajax, he studied to become a sports teacher at the ALO, where he met Peter Heerschop and Joep van Deudekom. In the 1980s, this friendship led to the formation of the comedy group NUHR.
After completing his training as a sports teacher, Viggo continued to take risks and push his boundaries, values he had developed through his experience in sport. This led to a range of new initiatives. Viggo performs solo in theatres with his show Cruijff & Pipo. He has also been a team captain on RTL 7 programmes such as Koning Voetbal and De Hollandse School. In addition, he has appeared in Dutch films including Alles is Liefde and Lef.
Viggo remains closely connected to football. He currently works as a field and assistant coach at Amsterdam-based club WV-HEDW and presents a sports column every Monday morning on Qmusic.
