About de Vrije Denkers

Arthur Kruisman and Patrick Donath form De Vrije Denkers. After developing intrapreneurship for many years within a large Dutch ICT company, they chose to become independent entrepreneurs in 2016. Since 2008, they have been delivering inspiring work sessions aimed at narrowing the gap between thinking and doing and generating enthusiasm for new ways of working.

Five Interactive Workshops

De Vrije Denkers have five storylines through which they engage groups in an energetic, interactive, positive and challenging way in the growing need for behavioural change within organisations. All workshops use accessible theories, engaging video material and various short exercises to truly experience and apply the theory behind behavioural change.

In addition to delivering work sessions, they help people in organisations and institutions enjoy carrying out necessary tasks. To achieve this, they make use of everything available within the organisation, from personal conversations to creating audio-visual products.

Sessions

‘How then? Do then!’ places even more emphasis on ‘doing’. We show and experience why taking that first step can be so difficult and how smart mechanisms can help prevent a relapse into ‘old’ behaviour. This practical workshop ensures that everyone literally takes step one. It can be delivered as a standalone workshop, but can also serve as a follow-up to Workshop 1, ‘Doing Is the Best Way of Thinking’.

The workshop provides tools to keep inspiration alive. We offer practical tools to prevent you from falling back into the daily routine after a day of inspiration. We show how to turn intentions into lasting behavioural change and how to deal with a possible relapse into ‘old’ behaviour. We explicitly shift the focus from ‘goals in the future’ to action and movement ‘here and now’.

‘Doing Is the Best Way of Thinking’ is a passionate plea for the need to take action in a turbulent time when change seems to be accelerating. When change happens faster than our ability to adapt, new strategies are needed. Doing and thinking need to be reconnected, with greater creativity, collaboration, experimentation and improvisation playing an essential role.

‘Everything of Value Is Vulnerable’ is a storyline in which the concept of value is explored from nine different perspectives or lenses. It is given new meaning through personal examples and examples from practice. We use everyday products such as yoghurt and custard, but also show how even human rights violations and the deprivation of freedoms can unexpectedly have particular value.

Throughout the presentation, concrete and more abstract examples are alternated, making it possible for everyone to translate the insights into their own professional practice. The title ‘Everything of Value Is Vulnerable’ is a line from a poem by Dutch poet and painter Lucebert.

‘Figure It Out Yourself!’ is a personal and, at times, confronting story. What has shaped us? What have we been curious about in organisations over the past 30 years?

What have we done to make our work more enjoyable, interesting and meaningful? How have we brought more enjoyment and freedom into our work, and how does this relate to our responsibilities?

The workshop encourages greater ownership, initiative and responsibility, while not shying away from our own obstacles, uncertainties and vulnerabilities.
