About Jelle Jolles

Jelle Jolles is a highly sought-after speaker and frequently invited guest in the media on topics related to learning, the brain, and youth development in the context of lifelong learning. As the author of 600 international publications and hundreds of Dutch articles, his goal is to share insights from recent research on the brain, cognition, and behavior with society. Jelle advocates for an active dialogue between science and practice and regularly appears on television, radio, and in national and regional publications. He is also frequently consulted as an advisor by government bodies and educational organizations looking to innovate using modern insights on brain development in children, adolescents, and young adults.

 

Background

Speaker Jelle Jolles is Professor of Neuropsychology at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, founder of the Brain & Learning Center, author of books including Het Tienerbrein, and head of the advisory practice NeuroPsy.

 

In addition to his work as a professor, Jelle worked for many years as a registered healthcare psychologist and clinical neuropsychologist. He established the Maastricht Memory Clinic and the Learning Clinic for youth, focusing on learning and learning disorders, ADHD, and behavioral issues in children and adolescents. Drawing on his practical experience as a neuropsychologist, he advocates for active dialogue between behavioral and neuroscience research and educational practice.

His TED talk on learning, the brain, and education has been viewed thousands of times. He regularly answers parental questions in the NRC parenting column and engages daily in “neurotalk.” His publications include Ellis en het Verbreinen (2011) and the bestseller Het Tienerbrein: Over de adolescent tussen biologie en omgeving (2016). At the request of the VO Council, he produced a webinar on mobile phone use in schools, and in 2023 collaborated with Malmberg on an online lecture aimed at teachers, school leaders, and parents about the learning adolescent and their brain.
