About Margot Ribberink

Speaker Margot Ribberink was the first female weather presenter on Dutch television. She presented the weather forecast on RTL4 for 20 years. On January 1, 2019, she stepped away from daily forecasts to fully focus on weather, climate, and sustainability. Margot grew up in Hengelo as the daughter of a contractor. After high school, she studied biology (ecology) at Radboud University in Nijmegen.

Academic Years

In the late 1980s, Margot Ribberink graduated with research on how plants in river areas adapt to flooding. Even then, she was aware of the impact of a changing climate on nature. After her studies, she completed a postdoctoral program at the International Institute for Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation at TU Twente. She considers her entry into weather presenting a matter of luck and meeting people who believed in her and gave her a chance.

We know the climate is changing and we want to do something about it—but how? In 2019, there were many questions and even more answers.

At all levels, across organizations and society, we struggle with shaping the energy transition and adapting to the new climate. At the same time, we are already consuming more energy and resources than the Earth can provide, and the gap between rich and poor is growing. We can and must take action. By breaking down this large and abstract problem and exploring solutions, opportunities naturally arise—opportunities to leave the world better for our children and grandchildren.
